Bring the Authors to Your Campus, Conference, or Special Event
How to Live Your Dream of Volunteering Overseas is an inspirational speech, a colorful travelogue, and a fact filled "how-to" talk, combined into one high-energy presentation.
The interactive lecture targets people who want to know how they can and stay true to their idealism when they venture out into the "real world;" those who want to gain relevant skills and intercultural experience for the global economy; and those in who want to make a concrete difference in the world.
The lecture covers practical information such as the pros and cons of the Peace Corps and other volunteer programs, how to make volunteering overseas a financially viable option, and tips for staying safe. It explores the questions answered by the book How to Live Your Dream of Volunteering Overseas.
The lecture features co-authors Joseph Collins, Stefano DeZerega, and/or Zahara Heckscher (depending on location).
With decades of combined international experience, the authors are leading authorities on international volunteerism. Joseph Collins, co-founder of the Institute for Food and Development Policy ("Food First"), got his start as a teenager volunteering in Latin America and the Philippines, which led to a lifetime researching, writing, and lecturing on the impact of U.S. policies on the lives of the world's poor majority. Stefano DeZerega, former director of the Overseas Development Network, has fifteen years of experience promoting global education and international student action. Zahara Heckscher has volunteered in Nicaragua and Zambia and lectures on volunteering overseas at college campuses around the country.
All three authors are dynamic presenters, knowledgeable, and personable. Through their words, and the examples of their lives, they inspire participants to reach for their dreams -- and give them the tools they need to succeed.

A healthy dose of questions and answers ensures that participants will get the information relevant to their lives, as well as a personal connection with the authors. Bookstore appearances give participants the opportunity to share an intimate evening with the authors, gaining inspiration and practical advice to help readers follow their dreams.

Book Discussion Groups
For book discussion groups with a minimum of six participants, the authors are available (schedule permitting) to participate in the discussion via conference call. Discussion group members can ask any questions they want -- from motivations for writing the book to specific questions about organizations. Author discussions can bring new energy into your book group, convey the latest information not contained in the book, and can help you and your discussion group members move towards living your dreams.
